Last night, the phone rang at 8:30. It was my mother, calling to tell me that Annie is FINE. Apparently a physical therapist and then a neurologist came through the NICU to evaluate the baby, and told my sister that she had nothing to worry about. The neurologist even went so far as to dismiss the EEG that had everyone so concerned, mentioning that it may have been done too soon (it was ordered for Monday, but done on Saturday), and that there is no way that Annie is going to wind up a vegetable (there were no "background waves" on the EEG, but the baby's head had been wrapped in ice for 72 hours to prevent any possible brain swelling after a traumatic birth).
Annie is, as we all suspected, a perfect baby who had a rough start. She did suffer a stroke, but the damage to her brain is so minor that the chances are high she will never have any difficulties at all.
The problem here, I think, is the neonatologist, who has persisted in telling my sister time and again that the baby "could" have some problems. She is the only one who maintains this doom-and-gloom manner around Annie, so I'm thinking of sending her an invitation to work with people who are already dying. Or dead--she would make a fantastic medical examiner, they LOVE gloomy scenarios with tragic outcomes.
I mean, I get that most of the babies in the NICU are very sick, and some of them won't make it. But wouldn't that just make you want to grab a little ray of sunshine and hope wherever you can? If you saw a baby in there whose chances were good, would that not make you happy? Keep your fingers crossed that they let Annie go home soon.
oh i'm so happy to hear that! you know how i worry about the littlest ones. tell jacqui we'll need more pictures soon!

The NICU is scary enough with out that doctor. Trust me us moms can make up far worse senerios we don't need idiots to help us.
