I'm home from the dentist. He used a saw, which got me thinking--for all the modern medical advancements, dentistry remains kind of ... medieval. The entire lower half of my face is still numb and will be that way for 8-12 hours. My cheeks are currently packed with gauze, and the children persist in asking questions about it. But I can't talk.
Incidentally, Dashing Husband just came in and said, incredulously, "Are you blogging about this moments after it happened?" Why yes. Yes I am.
Does anyone know what happens to all the spit they suck out of your mouth at the dentist?
The spit, blood, etc. goes down the drain where it is filtered and then flows into sewage. Whatever the filter collects is cleaned out and picked up by the medical waste people. I've seen it done and it is just one of the stinkiest, most disgusting things that you can imagine. The pleasures of having a dental hygienist for a parent.

The spit is sterilized, dried, powdered and then canned.
Later it is sold to ball players, tobacco chewers and loggers.
Just thought you should know the rest of the story.
